Christopher was introduced to the Thornton's by Robert Peel, a client for whom Christopher had designed and executed extensive refurbishment of two of properties in Derby near to the Thorntons' home.

The commission which included the extensive restructuring of the kitchen, utility and breakfast room including the design and manufacture of solid bleached ash furniture was undertaken before the sad demise of the late Mrs. Thornton; who was sadly kicked in the head by a horse at Utoxeter Races whilst sketching.
